EMAGAZINE FIRST CLASSICS: Naomi Bogopa - Exclusive Interview - June/July 2011 Issue

EMAGAZINE FIRST: So Naomi, you know you're sexy right? I mean you made FHM's top 100 models. Surely it must be hard to keep grounded. All the fans, people who just knew you before but are trying to be friends with you now, the groupies and all the stalkers, lol. How are you dealing with all that?

NAOMI: I always keep a level head,I dnt things lyk dat affect who I really am at the end of the day. I still relate to people like I used to before I became one of the FHM top 100 models. Of course some people wud treat me more special but I still stay humble.

EMAGAZINE FIRST: Much respect to that. So we all know you through FHM, well most of us. Besides that, what else are you doing or planning to do in the near future? What else would you like us to know about you?

NAOMI: Well I'm currently doing my LLB degree so I plan to finish with that first. I'm still continuing with modelling but I would like to do editorial work, hopefully someone would see me and decide to put me in some magazine.

EMAGAZINE FIRST: Beauty and brains? What more could one ask for? And now the infamous question no one likes to answer. Who's the lucky guy? Who stole you away from us?

NAOMI: The man is my life is Mr enonymous, lol. He is very special to me,we have been through bad & good times together but we are still holding on because we love each other that much.

RELIGION: EXISTENTIALISM
A philosophy that emphasizes the uniqueness and isolation of the individual experience in a hostile or indifferent universe, regards human existence as unexplainable, and stresses freedom of choice and responsibility for the consequences of one’s acts.
The philosophers Søren Kierkegaard and Friedrich Nietzsche foreshadowed existentialism. Existentialism is a term applied to the work of a number of late 19th- and 20th-century philosophers who, despite profound doctrinal differences, shared the belief that philosophical thinking begins with the human subject—not merely the thinking subject, but the acting, feeling, living human individual. In existentialism, the individual’s starting point is characterized by what has been called "the existential attitude", or a sense of disorientation and confusion in the face of an apparently meaningless or absurd world. Many existentialists have also regarded traditional systematic or academic philosophy, in both style and content, as too abstract and remote from concrete human experience. The early 19th century philosopher Søren Kierkegaard is regarded as the father of existentialism. He maintained that the individual is solely responsible for giving his or her own life meaning and for living that life passionately and sincerely, in spite of many existential obstacles and distractions including despair, angst, absurdity, alienation, and boredom.

MOVIE REVIEW: HIP HOP REVOLUTION
Using an experimental narrative style, South African filmmaker Weaam Williams has infused her film with a texture and life that breathes with every cut. "Hip Hop Revolution" is first an exploration of the lives of a generation so touched by this genre and its culture that they are inspired to question, survive and conquer an unjust political system. Through the struggles of DJs, B-Boys, MCs and creative graffiti artists, "Hip Hop Revolution" depicts an element of hip hop so often forgotten - its power to inspire and catalyze change. A favorite at the 2007 AFI Silverdocs Festival, Willams’ film has been praised because it gives "voice to South Africa’s hip-hop subculture, and reminds Western viewers of the complexity of black experience, at home and worldwide."

ON THE COVER
I am currently doing my second year at the Univerity of the Free State where I’m studying towards a bachelor’s degree in psychology. In my first year, I enterd a massive competition in our varsity for RAG ( Recieving And Giving) where we had to raise funds and be at charity events to show we care about less privillaged people. In the beginning we were over 500 and only 37 of us made it to the semi-finals. On October the 6th, 10 of us made it to the finals and then the real experience of being a model started. Where I got to meet different people in the industry who taught me so much about modelling. I also got to go to Mozambique for a week and met more people in the industry. I am currently busy with a documentary that I will be presenting and narrating on ETV or SABC1 soon. The tittle of the documentary is "Inspiratin Behind Bars" You can follow me on FB @ Nomathamsanqa Fuba Tolokazi for more info on that and on twiter @ Lady_Nomz.

SEXIEST WOMAN ALIVE?
Esquire has proclaimed Rihanna the Sexiest Woman Alive and she is the almost completely naked cover of the mag’s November issue. The "Man Down" singer has taken the title and is photographed wearing nothing but a bit of strategically placed seaweed/green goop and mud. The 23 year-old isn’t impressed with how other people view her hotness and says she doesn’t feel sexy when she performs. "At the end of a concert, I don’t feel like I’ve been this sexy thing," Rihanna told the magazine about how she feels after her seemingly sexy stage show. "Really, I don’t even think about it." But Rihanna does admit that there are times when it does come out. backseatcuddler.com

September/October Front Page Commentary by Nyiko Baloyi

"I decided to go for a more subtle, elegant, yet seductive approach on the front cover. The plan was to explore a more mysterious and discrete layout as opposed to the previous(June/July) cover, which was quite out there, forcefull and full of colour. Although the theme worked as anticipated for EMagazine First, it doesn't hurt to expand our horizons." Nyiko Baloyi (EMagazine First Creative Director).

What do you think?
