PROFILE===>>> GUDFELLAZ (SA)

Zuko 'Emzetkay' Ntluko(21) and Luyanda 'Lemzin' Kwepile(21) make up the Hip hop duo 'Gudfellaz'.
They all hail from khayelitsha site B. The crew Gudfellaz was established in late 2011.
They met in 2009 through hip hop circles, became friends and ended up doing music together with other artist at Ghetto rhythms, now known as Fireburn. They parted ways with Ghetto rhythms after a year of working there.

They then formed the crew Gudfellaz alongside Matto who had been friends with them for a while. 'Gudfellaz' ended up parting ways with Matto due to problems they were experiencing with him.

The formation of the crew was inspired by common challenges they were facing in the hip hop game such as being undermined or overlooked by people they were working with, not getting gigs, features on mixtapes and so on. They then decided to come together to form a formidable team, where they do everything themselves. From managing themselves, to doing events, promoting and marketing their music. They are also looking at venturing into merchandising in the near future. Gudfellaz is not just a rap crew, its also an entertainment company.

"In our music we mostly talk about social issues that affect us in our daily lives. We also try and uplift the youth and encourage them to get up and do things themselves and work hard in pursuit of their dreams. Basically we are just spreading a positive message. Our style of music is very diverse. We try our level best to avoid being one dimensional."

"We have collaborated with some respected artists and crews such as Rivlin clique, Chapparol, King jnr, Kwanda Mchunu(DBN), Matic, Black scientist etc. We have worked with producers lsuch as Matic, Black scientist, Shaka Zulu(DBN), Dilaska(DBN), Inffa, Gary Arscenic, Maphetshana etc."

"Our first official single called "Mthande Naye" reached number 1 on www.bulletonlineinc.com/btunes .It was voted number 1 on so fresh and so clean and it is now sitting on number 3 on Headwarmaz top 5 charts(bush radio). The song "Mthande Naye "is receiving major  airplay at different radio stations like bush radio, ekhepheni fm(eastern cape), radio zibonele. Another song that is enjoying airplay is 'Get it done', UCT radio has been playing that song a lot. We are set to drop our debut mixtape in February next year, which will mark our arrival in the game."

"We have performed around Cape Town in local gigs like Juke box session with Driemanskap, Black sartuday, Kool out lounge etc. Park jams(allnyz, pass the mic sessions, sound masters street shows, heads and raps, etc) and festivals like World aids day .We have toured places like Worcester, Ceres, Stellenbosch, Grabow and Eastern cape."

"We have shared  stages with the likes of Ifani(JHB), Driemanskap, Ill Skills, Ian Kamau(canada), Young star, just to mention a few."

NYE PARTY AT KINGSTON ON 4TH

‘’You’re brave”, were words uttered to me as I breathlessly forked together the last bits of the legendary ‘Kingston on 4th Cheese Burger’. My last meal for 2012 had to be one fit for a King, as the night ahead would prove to be ‘madd’.

Rudebwoy Sphola opened up the floor upstairs and without delay had us moving to the illest beats. Two floors meant two times the pleasure and that is definitely what I experienced. Although the constant movement between the floors was proving to be quite some exercise, it meant my New Year’s Resolution of exercising kicked off earlier than anticipated.

Cardinal had the small yet intimate crowd downstairs bumping and grinding to fine dancehall and reggae tunes. Duo Danceholic switched it up a lil and had us equally at the palm of their hands with their selection.

Towards the countdown to 2013, Nok had us putting our “Lighters Up”, a song by rapper Lil’ Kim which was produced by her ex-boyfriend Scott Storch and released on the 31st of August 2005. Soon after that “Slew Dem’’, by Capleton which has become an anthem at the Dancehall & Reggae events I’ve attended was played. Rightfully so, it is the one song that instantly uplifts my mood and has me attempt to dance.

Other Selectas who graced the floors were Zee Skull, Mystical Ebony, Gaza Skull (who played a set just as blazing as the outfit she wore), Tandaring Dawta, DJ Pepe and Guesst DJ.
Guesst Dj was saved for last, understandably. At that time I was just about ready to go home and drained from the eventful night, all which seemed to have faded now. His technique of mixing is unique, to say the least, he’s a pioneer. He played reggae beats and made them sound futuristic. A first class set in my records.

Kingston on 4th was the place to usher into 2013. If you could not make it we hope the gallery of pictures by Nyiko Baloyi gives you a glimpse of what went down.

“PEOPLE OF THE SUN” believe “the best way to predict the future is to EVENT it”. With that said, a day after the world was supposed to “end”- PEOPLE OF THE SUN “EVENTED” “LUCIANO” live at the BASSLINE, but I don’t think even they could have predicted the results of the “messenger” welcoming us into a new age reggae style.

I can never stress enough about the amount of energy, unity and love of reggae music I experienced when I got to BASSLINE. After a long night and what seemed to be an endless day at work , I walked into a Sizzla banger played by MYSTICAL EBONY on the ones and two’s-booty winding on the dance floor-dreadlocks shaking insanely through the air-people’s feet off the ground like they were in temporary levitation-and the sweet scent of a Rasta filled environment.

Before LUCIANO could even set foot on the stage-we had FAYA UMAN doing her thing warming up the crowd with riddims from her new album. It always means fun for the massive when FAYA UMAN has a microphone in her hands. Next on the list of performers we had TEBAN CEE who is one crazy man on the stage-this brother will have your body moving in a rhythm even if you don’t want to. And as far as bands go, TIDAL WAVES are a force to be reckoned with- you just can’t help but admire the way these guys are possessed by their instruments- they were making the guitars, drums and keyboard speak a language everybody seemed to understand and agree with.

SHEPHARD STULLA kept things running as our MC for the night hyping up the masses for the likes of DJ PEPE –COPPASHOT-GIGGZ and KAGZ as they jammed those mood tunes on the decks keeping the people excited and on their feet in musical ecstasy before the grand finale. While some people were on the floor anticipating LUCIANO-some were backstage watching LUCIANO performing his meditation which included breathing exercises-stretching-jumping up and down in preparation for what would be a blazing performance.

Then it happened-what everybody had gathered at BASSLINE to see-what PEOPLE OF THE SUN had “EVENTED”. LUCIANO stepped on stage. I think the right words to describe that moment are “SOMETHING ELSE”. The man has an out of space singing voice which puts him amongst the greats. HE gave us songs like “give praise to rastsfari” and “it’s me again jah”. And what is a reggae concert without a tribute to BOB MARLEY which “the messenger” did with his voice and his acoustic guitar- giving the band a short break-LUCIANO gave us his version of “redemption song”- needless to say he did it justice and more. For a second there I could have sworn the crowd was suspended in what seemed to be a “perfect moment”. You can’t take anything away from LUCIANO with his undeniable talent-the way he dominates his craft-the energy he gives out on stage-how he runs and jumps around in a dance unique to himself-interacts with his listeners-and the love he has for what he does.

The man is majestic and it’s bona fide in his whole being as well as his music and his message. LUCIANO has a simple message-his message is “LOVE” and “UNITY”- not just among the African people but among the human race as a whole. And that’s what he aims to teach through his art. It’s safe to say anyone who has witnessed this icon on stage has come out with a little more “LOVE” and “UNITY” from the “MESSENGER”. I don’t know about my EMAGAZINE FIRST colleague but this was the best night of my 2012 and I’m sure a lot of people share my sentiments.

LARGE UP “PEOPLE OF THE SUN PRODUCTIONS” for “EVENTING” yet another crazy night in newtown. Big up all the massive who came to share the experience. ONE LOVE TO ALL ME REGGAE LOVERS AROUND THE GLOBE!!!BIG UP EMAGAZINE FIRST-its first class all the way!
